Inhabiting a Delayering Space | Asmii Sawant 34
My site is located along the beach, where my primary observation was the natural weathering of rocks. This process can be understood as a form of de-layering, where each passing moment slices off a layer, using time as a measurable element.
The concept explores the experience of inhabiting a structure that continuously layers and de-layers in response to seasonal changes. Designed as both a workspace and a resting area for workers, the structure uses natural materials that transform with time. Mud and Moss.
Mud is layered on the bamboo framework and walls during spring, providing shade and cooling and gradually washes away with the monsoon. Moss grows naturally during the rains, introducing dampness, purified air, and a habitat for small ecologies, before drying out in summer.
As the mud washes off, the space transitions in use it becomes an area for growing sprouts during the monsoon, and later, once cleaned, it serves as a workspace for sorting fish, making nets and knotting bamboos.
